Sites to Check Out: Actively Learn, Smithsonian, Mathis, Phet Interactive

Actively Learn - This site allows a teacher to create a class and push out reading assignments.  There is a catalog of grade level and subject area content, or you can add in your own by using a URL, PDF, or Google Doc.  Students are able to highlight and take notes.  Teachers are able to post questions (which can be graded after students answer them).  Additionally, supplemental notes (which could include video clips) can be added in. The teacher can choose whether or not to show student answers to the whole class, hide identity of students, etc.  Want to try it as a student?  Join my class, the code is 700d3 .  There is an assignment about Greek Life.  You should be able to sign in using the Sign in With Google Link.

Smithsonian Museum of Natural History has an “Explore a Topic” section that includes sections on Earth’s History and the Solar System.

The Mathist is a site that allows you to take math notes.  It has a special interface allowing easy set up of equations and common math items like exponents, fractions and square roots.  It will even solve the equations for you and produce a graph, if applicable.  If you sign in using Google, your notes are saved in your Google Docs. Check out TheMathist blog with instructional videos and ideas.
